ARAPA Spring Update 2016
Share |

SAVE THE DATE!  Make sure to mark September 23-24, 2016 at the Little Rock Convention Center.  Look for future emails with exact times, CME hours, and hotel reservation details.

HYDROCODONE.  If you have not already done so complete the steps below to update your DEA license with the 2N designation.  Remember, this will allow you to write for hydrocodone products only – no other Schedule 2 medications.

1.     First, complete your “Addendum to the Protocol” with your supervising physician, have it notarized, and email it to support@armedicalboard.org.

2.     Once you have received back the approved Addendum, fax a copy to the DEA at 501-217-6597 (no cover page is required).  Please handwrite your name and DEA number on the form so it will be faster to process.  Although you may have been authorized by the Board to handle HCP products, you cannot do so until your DEA registration is updated.

3.     Your DEA number will remain the same, but an updated certificate will be mailed to you.  If you would like a copy of the certificate prior to then, please visit www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov .  In the upper left hand portion of the page, you will see some hyper-links.  The 6th one down is “Duplicate Certificate Request”.  Follow the prompts, and you will be able to print a copy from there.  Please note:  it takes 24-hours for the computer to update.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call/write Lisa Barnhill at 501-217-6500 or lisa.r.barnhill@usdoj.gov.

***If you have not already sent in your Addendum to the Protocol to the ASMB you will need to submit evidence of 5 hours of pain management CME with your addendum.***

You also need 5 hours of pain management CME to remain in compliance with the ASMB’s approval of hydrocodone combination prescription writing, Regulation 24.  This is 5 hours one time only and does not specific category 1 or 2.  Newly licensed Pas have 2 years from time of licensing to have this completed, however, no timeframe is indicated for those already licensed.  The ASMB indicated in their Winter 2016 newsletter “A list of PA’s who have been approved for Schedule II HCP prescribing but have not submitted their pain management CME as of 7/15/2016will be provided to the Board for their review at the August 2016 meeting.”

***If you have already submitted your Addendum to the Protocol and have DEA approval of 2N, please complete and submit your 5 hours of pain management CME to the Board before 7/15/2016.***

Fax or email documentation to the ASMB specifying ‘HCP Prescribing Authority.’  ASMB: 1401 W. Capitol, Ste 340, Little Rock, AR 72201; fax to 501-296-1805; or email PDF to support@armedicalboard.org.

FREE CME.  While there are many sources that provide pain management CME I have included a link to a free American College of Physicians Online Opioid Prescribing CME course. This will earn you 3.5 of your 5 hours.  Medscape also has several 0.25 – 1.0 credit hour activities.
